The Lantern Festival (Yuan Xiao Jie), is a traditional Chinese celebration held on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month. It marks the end of the Lunar New Year Celebration and it is filled with fun activities like riddle games, lantern making and festivals, as well as eating some sticky rice balls “yuan xiao”. Yuan xiao may look like tang yuan, but they are made differently.
The students will honor this holiday by creating their own “yuan xiao”. They were able to experience the traditional way of making glutinous rice balls using a bamboo tray with the help from our parent volunteers, teachers, and our graduating class T9 students.
